In the first scene in which you see the highschool, read the school's name sigh. The name of the school is "aJohn Hughes High School". John Hughes created the original teen movies, like "16 Candles" and " The Breakfast Club" in the 80's.

at the end when jake is at the airport and is talking jamie out of going to paris he starts quoting lines from teen movies,one of which molly ringwald starred in-pretty in pink. then a flight lady at the desk gets ticked at jake for quoting all of it....
