Silent Hill Easter Egg - Stephen King References

These are things that are very hard to see the first time around in the survival-horror game, Silent Hill. They are both references to Stephen King, probably because Silent Hill is just as scary as his books!

1. After finishing the School scenario, and have found the K. Gordon key, go through K. Gordon's house. You should be looking for the church right now. Go to Bloch St. and start checking garage doors on its north side. Eventually, you should find a garage door with the words "REDRUM" smeered across it in blood. This is a reference to The Shining, I beleive.

2. After finishing the Hospital scenario in the Silent Hill Shopping District, go to the Antique Shop, and search it. After finding the secret passage, a scene between Harry and Cybil should occur, ending with you automatically entering the passage. At the end, search the altar. When you try to leave, the Alternate Silent Hill should take over. Leave the Antique Shop, and run right across the street. There are posters for the movie "Carrie" stuck to the wall! Yet another Stephen King reference.

Stephen King isn't the only Writer mentioned in this game, on every map you get in the game almost all of the street names are either the first or last names of Famous Horror Writers

As I've heard it, the authors in particular all wrote books with a premise similar to Silent Hill, towns with mist, etc.

Exactly, to add to the Stephen King references: "Bachman Rd." Richard Bachman was Stephen Kings pen-name in his earlier career. If you read Stephen Kings short story, "the Mist" (a story about a strong mist engulfing the town with mutated monsters emerging from it to kill people, hmm, sound familiar?) you know that in the end the main character is trapped in the mist-filled town, and is sitting in a diner-cafe and is writing notes. He says "I hope someone finds my notes and can make use of them." When Harry sees his first notepad (save-game), words similar to that sentence are scrolled across the screen. "The Mist" seems to correlate with this game a lot.

Actually, he says THIS exactly: "I am going to leave these pages on the counter and perhaps someday someone will find them and read them." But yeah, there is a LOT of reference towards the Stephen King books Skeleton Crew (featuring The Mist) and The Regulators. These posts have been a real eye-opener to me, thank you.

If you read the game manual it says something about Harry being a writer, which makes a lot of sense with all these literature references in the game. Also *SPOILER* In the ending I got (worst ending) it was a death dream, maybe he was remembering things he read in the books that the writers wrote?

Here's another Stephen King tidbit: At the beginning of the game when you are in the diner, there is a poster on the wall next to the pinball(?) machine that says "STUDY, DAMMIT!" and has a picture of a man pointing a shotgun. That man is actually Stephen King, and that poster is a poster that he made when he was in college that was put into the college newspaper to "inspire" the students to study.

i noticed a alot of those eggs and i noticed another one. The pinball machine in the diner also reminds me of stephen kings book and movie " Children of the corn" when Malakai is playing pinball a diner when people die
