Matrix, The Easter Egg - Twins in the Agent Training Program

This egg is mentioned in the DVD director's speech. When Morpheus and Neo is in the "Agent Training Program", they were walking in a crowded city. Notice that you will see that almost every pedestrians walking in the street show up twice! This is obvious when the agent pulls out his gun and the scene paused. You will see the same person with bald head just below Neo.

Apparently only twins were used for the whole scene, in an attempt to subtly make the scene appear like a running program (to increase runtime speed, of course a computer would use the same graphics over and opver).

I live in Sydney and know that fountain - my boyfriend works right next to it. If they had a blue screen up, you would loose all the stuff behind them, and that was there! I like the idea of twins better

The bluescreen is in the studio, where they shoot the actors. They overlay the image of the surroundings in later. You don't generally do bluescreening on location. It would defeat the purpose!

Well, you are ALL wrong, this is NOT an EGG at all! A little quote from the Wachowski Brothers chat: "WachowskiBros: People don't realize how important this scene is, because we are all staring at the woman in the red dress! There are actually twins and triplets that we hired in that scene. And all of the clothes are based on black and white costumes, like nuns, chefs, brides, sailors. We had the idea that Mouse just doubled people instead of making originals. But we couldn't afford to do it digitally, so we ended up hiring as many doubles, or as many twins, as we could find in Sydney. It was kind of like a bad dream on the set"

They filmed the background with the extras, the agent, and Morpheus and Neo all seperately, then ran the film together. It says that in the DVD version.

Not only did they use every set of twins and triplets in Sidney but they also had the people come back around so that they'd go past the camera again in order to save on cash and only have to do the freeze effects for that scene (which was an easy thing anyway, according to the Wachowskis.)

It was explained to me by a friend (who owns the DVD) that Mouse, who wrote the training program, was too lazy to create that many individual people, so he made lots of duplicates. A few people I've talked to about it wondered why Neo didn't notice this. Do you take the time to look at everyone. I didn't notice this first time around either. (I have about 7 viewings under my belt)

Troubador, you are completly wrong about never using a blue screen on location. If you view the special features on the DVD The Others, they walk you through the making of some of the scenes, and they definately use a blue screen outdoors at several locations.

I'm not sure whether this counts as an egg or not - but the reason is shown on the matrix revisited (Under scene 14:Woman in Red) We find that Deja Vous is a glitch in the Matrix later in the film - this is a case of a serious glitch - presumably becase Mouse couldn't program as well as the 'bots who made the matrix
