MICROSOFT ACCESS Easter Egg - Access 97 - Magic Eight Ball

1. Load Microsoft Access 97
2. Create a blank database
3. Go to "MACROS"
4. Click on "NEW"
5. Press space
6. Close the dialog box
7. Click "YES"
8. Save as "Magic Eight Ball"
9. Go to "VIEW/TOOLBARS/CUSTOMIZE" and check off macro design
10. Drag the macro to the second toolbar.

To get rid of the 8-ball button: Go to view\toolbars\customize. Then you can drag the button off the toolbar onto the customize window. (Submitted by brf)

Interesting that Microsoft would include a criticism of one of its own products. One of the Magic 8 Ball messages is: "Outlook not so good". In many ways, I agree.

also works in access 2000 (as long as you apply the patch update from MS first, otherwise it crashes access)

No need to do #9.... Once you save it as Magic Eight Ball, just drag it to any toolbar.

There is nothing at all ironic about an egg which says something unflattering about the software or the company that makes it. Easter Eggs, almost by definition, are code which is hidden by individual coders in commercial software. It is not generally allowable by the manufacturer; people have been fired for it. So it makes perfect sense that an egg might make a cynical comment about a piece of software or its owner. After all, Outlook *isn't* so good--it's probably the best thing for email-communicated viruses since WinX.

I brought up the Magic 8 Ball on my computer at work, on which I usually have the sound disengaged. The other day I turned the sound on (among other things, to hear the Adobe woofing-dog egg) and heard the spooky Magic 8 Ball noise for the first time! It was a real shock as I wasn't expecting it (luckily my boss didn't turn around).

"Outlook not so good" is not a reference to the email program. The magic ball is simply saying that "the outlook/future is not so good."
