Zelda: Link's Awakening Easter Egg - Cool Music

Using specific names on the player select screen can have fun and special effects. On the player select screen, start a new file. Enter the following names, and their effects will take place.

Name it ZELDA - (Must be in all caps)Press START and a really neat version of the Zelda theme will play.

In the Japanese version, enter your name as Totakeke (in hiragana) and the File Select music will change to Kazumi Totaka's Song - a signature theme hidden in nearly every game the music director has worked on.

Interestingly, in the German version you can also enter your name as MOYSE to get a different crazy composition. Claude M. Moyse was the name of the German translator of the game.

In the original Zelda for NES the difficulty level is increased. Not sure about any of the others though. I'm pretty sure typing ZELDA on the Ocarina of Time has no effect.

It didn't work for me in the Zelda 64. But it is funny when you meet the real Zelda and she asks your name then says "ZELDA...that sounds familiar somehow"

In the origanal Zelda, putting in the name Zelda doesn't increase your dificulty level. What it does is put you on the 2nd quest. If you don't put the name Zelda, you have to beat all 8 castles and then kill gannon. As the credits end, it says "now save the real Zelda",or something like that, and you start over on the 2nd quest. In the 2nd quest, the castles are in a different place and so are many of the items. All that putting Zelda will do is just cut the game in half.

I read that in TLOZ 2: The Adventure of Link, if you make your name ZELDA you will play an entirely new game with a new story. Apparently, in this game, instead of facing a wizard you are trying to prevent the resurrection of Ganon.

Typing ZELDA in Ocarina of Time Does do something. It changes the background music in the game. Not much, but if you play it a billion time like I ahve you notice the difference. In most cases it's just the same music with different instruments.
