Modern Life Is Rubbish (Blur) Easter Egg - The Emphasis Is on Coping
Blur were at loggerheads with their record company Food, then owned by Dave Balfe.
Balfe was once a member of Julian Cope's band "A Teardrop Explodes". Cope and Balfe fell out badly.
To get at Balfe, Blur made lots of references to Cope.
Colin Zeal - steals the melody of ATE's "Sleeping Gas"
Pressure on Julian - obvious
Coping - again, obvious
There are plenty more, quite subtle, musical references to Cope's music on the album, particularly in some of Alex James' basslines.
