Wall-E Easter Egg - A Space Odyssey

This is actually a dual egg. Both are found right at the beginning of the "Define Earth" chapter, where the Captain is researching various subjects about Earth.

Behind him, there is a small bookcase that holds his globe. But located on the shelf above this, there is a space helmet, which resembles the helmets found in 2001: A Space Odyssey, only white. Though people may argue that it could be any kind of space helmet, it seems to have a slightly pointed top like those in 2001. Also, AUTO bears a slight resemblance to HAL (both in eye and following a secret directive) from the movie, so I don't see why they wouldn't put something else in like it.

Also, behind that helmet appears to be a small model of the Sputnik satellite.

Okay, yes, there is Sputnik, but I didn't watched Odyssey, so I don't know that this one is from SO. But, Sputnik is, here is proof http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/862/spaceodysseysputnikom2.jpg Ball just near the helmet, a bit hard to see whole one (At first, only a ball is recognizable), but, look closer - this is Sputnik

I was watching this tonight. From the front, it does have some resemblance to the 2001 space helmet, but later there is a side view and the distinct shape from 2001 does not seem to be there.

Sputnik can also be found in the bit where WALL-E is holding onto the spaceship. when they go through a layer of satellites, some get attached to WALL-E and one of them is Sputnik.
