mIRC Easter Egg - Very Hidden Meesage

1.Open your hex editor
2.If it will let you, open mirc.exe (you may have to change security settings)
3.If you scroll down far enough, you should see the message "Editing out the version reply, huh? :)"

That's funny! I always wondered is programmers put hidden messages in their programs only people with hex editors could see.

There are actually many of these thinks in mIRC, I used WIN32Dasm and looked in the strings like 'alien,' 'piggywiggy,' 'sheep,' 'TinkerToy,' and 'Zork.' I don't know about you, but I think Khaled has some issues! :)

Press alt+r & put in ctcp:version:*:{ haltdef } that halt's a ctcp on version :) scripting ownz u works w/ 5.71 or higher

You can't halt the CTCP VERSION reply with scripting. I can't say for sure, but if I was Khaled, I'd have the CTCP replies parsed BEFORE any scripts. So by the time the script parser gets ahold of it, the replies already been sent. The only sure way I've found to halt the version reply is by hex editing. I've seen dozens of scripted solutions, none work.

Regarding the removal of version (and other) ctcp replies, surely an easier method is to simply employ /ignore -t *!*@* that way any ctcp is ignored completely, often handy in the case of clone attacks or other such nasties. i also recommend /ignore -d *!*@* for the case of flood bots trying to send malformed dcc events, but that's a different story altogether -DJ Services Administrator, IRCOp, irc.utgames.com
