Series of Unfortunate Events, A Easter Egg - Charles Baudelaire
On the page with all the copyright notices for chapter fourteen there is a small piece of text written in french it reads:
Ô Mort capitaine, il est temps! levons l’ancre!
Ce pays nous ennuie, ô Mort! Appareillons!
Si le ciel et la mer sont noirs comme de l’encre,
Nos cœurs que tu connais sont remplis de rayons!
When translated it shows a famous poem written by Charles Baudelaire:
O Dead captain, it is time! let us weigh the anchor!
This country annoys us, Dead O! Let us install!
If the sky and the sea are black like ink,
Our hearts which you know are filled with rays!
O Died captain, it is time! let us weigh the anchor!
This country annoys us, Dead O! Let us install!
If the sky and the sea are black like ink,
Our hearts which you know are filled with rays!
