Simpsons, The Easter Egg - Waldo!

Near the end of the episode, when everyone is in Flander's bomb shelter arguing, if you look extremely closely, during one clip (about 2-3 sec. long) Waldo from the "Where's Waldo" line of books appears, complete with glasses and stripped hat.

He can also be seen in the Halloween Episode (I forget which one) when Bart tries to raise Snowball I from the dead. One of books he looks through in the beginning of the show is a (fake) Waldo book. After Bart looks through it he says, about Waldo, "He ain't tryin' hard enough anymore" or something like that.

I don't remember which episode it is (if you watch The Simpsons you probably know which one I'm talking about), but at the beginning of one of the episodes Homer is standing in the kitchen reading the Sunday comics. He goes "Oooh! Where's Waldo! Here? No, here? Here? There?" and then in despair he cries "Where's Waldo?!?" just as Waldo walks right past the window.

Ahah! I can explain this for you, VirtualAngel. In America the character is called Waldo, but in some country's they changed Waldos name to Wally because "Waldo" isn't a real name in those countrys.

Humpty Dumpty- in case you care- Waldo is also called Effy in at least one country I know of- namely Israel- because it works better with "where" which is "efo"- also in other shows, such as south park's alien, there is one in every episode. It might be a challenge to try and locate a waldo in every simpson's epidsode and they might have put they more obvious one in to give people the idea. I'm not sure but that's what I've heards

The reason there isn't two different Wally or Waldo shows is cause there is no Wally/waldo show in America. Geez, I didn't even know there was such a thing (unless it like runs on cartoon network at 5 in the morning). Waldo is more of a comedy or trademark name now in America, but I believe it came from Italy if I remember correctly -- and Wally is its English equivolent. Hey, for the hell of it, i think im gunna name my kid that just to settle this dispute.

There was a "Where's Waldo?" TV show in America. It was played right after The "Back To The Future" animated show on NBC about 6 to 8 years ago. Sorry about aproximating, but I'm forgetting stuff like that.

I hate to disappoint all of you who cant get your Saturday morning cartoons straight, but the Where's Waldo cartoon came out on fox. They took it off the air fairly quickly and if I remember correctly it came out in 1992.

When I was in elementary school, mid 70's, there was a book in the library called "Where's Wallace?" same concept as Waldo. I know it exists because my friend and I LOVED that book, but I have never been able to find any information about it. Has anyone ever heard of it? Me thinks Waldo ripped off Wallace!

Anyway...it's "Where's Waldo?" in America, and the Simpsons is an American show, so that's why. I'm not sure if there are that many people named Waldo (there is that guy from "Family Matters", Waldo Faldo Heraldo) in America, but there probably is now since the book came out. <<>>

Where I come from there is a thing similar to Waldo who dresses up in a bikini and hangs around in the middle of big crowds. I think his name is "some guy similar to Waldo who dresses up in bikinis and hangs round in big crowds". By the way, I live in Ireland.

Just to clear this up: I'm from Ireland too. In the British isles and Ireland, there are a popular set of books going known as "where's Wally?" They feature a guy dressed in a striped red and white pullover who stands in the middle of similarly dressed crowds with his dog and walking stick. Your job, as the reader, is to find him in the immense picture. Homer, in an early episode of the Simpsons opens up a "where's Waldo" book, which I take to be a play on "Where's Wally?" We see a life size picture of "Waldo" with no crowd around him at all. Homer says "Waldo just isn't trying any more". I'm not sure if Waldo, Wally or whatever's name is changed from country to country, but it was still funny to me. The main thing is, books of the "where's Wally/Waldo" types were incredibly popular and still are. The Simpsons has played on them a few times now.

Let me clear this up In Canada and America it's wheres Waldo (and maybe in other places too.) I think the books are the same, just Waldo has a different name. Odlaw is the evil Waldo (waldo spelled backwards),Wendy is the girl the dog is Woof, the wizard is wizard whitebeard, and i have way too much time on my hands (there are many different Waldo books Where's Waldo, Find Waldo NOW! etc.)

Hello everyone! Okay...lets get one thing straight, a name can be anything. It can be made up, like Waldo. My mom made up my middle name from the names of my grandparents, Jay and Janetta, creating Janae, yes I do know there are people out there named Janae but there wasn't any we knew of when I as born. So it doesn't matter if a name is made up, like Zenderlisious, because no body cares!! And for those people in Australia, England, and Ireland, in your countries there may be "Where's Wallace" Where's Walley" or "Where's Bruno", whatever, who care, just here in the United States its "Where's Waldo" to prove it here's the site from the TV channel, FOX, that had "Where's Waldo" on it before it went off the air. It shows a picture of Waldo on the side and I think they must be Where's Waldo games you can play, I don't know I didn't try them. Who cares? Why are you all getting worked up about a dude's name? Don't you all realize that the comments are like 10 times longer than the easter egg itself? It's a cartoon character, no the great war of the striped shirted man. Most people just say "Ha ha, I saw that and it was funny." I know the easter eggs are about having a lot of free time and paying close attention to stuff, but is this waldo/wally thing really that important? Go read a newspaper, there's war in Iraq.

And to the Janae girl your mother didn't create that name. Janae is a different spelling of Janay, or Ganay it's actually has no base. (A base name is the very first spelling of that name like Riley can become Ryelee) it's simply a play on letters. And Yes I am off topic but so is everyone else

I'm from the UK where 'Waldo' is Wally. I grew up loving them books! But if I remember correctly 'Odlaw' who was Wally's enemy look the same as Wally except he had black stripes and White Stripes instead of Wally's red stripes and White Stripes. He also, if i remember correctly, had an evil look on his face.

I now know that in America 'Wally' is called 'Waldo'. By the way, I come from Australia. In both the American and Australian T.V series Wally/Waldo is followed by a villan named Odlaw, who is after his cane. For those who havn't yet figured it out, 'Odlaw' is 'Waldo' spelled backwards. How come in Australia Odlaw isn't called 'Yllaw'. Or at least they could make his name an acronym of Wally. Eg: 'Ally-W' or even 'Yawll'. But personally I prefer 'Ally-W'.

The Where's Wally? books were written by a British illustrator called Martin Handford. The name was changed for North America for some reason. The TV series was then made in the US, with the sound-track and dialogue done twice with the same cast - one for the Waldo version, and one for the Wally version, however since Odlaw sounds a lot better than Yllaw, they kept the US name for him in both. Martin Handford then brought Odlaw into the books using the same name, which is why even in the British/Australian versions there is an Odlaw. Now shh.

Well, according to Wikipedia, the original name was "Where's Willy?", the name was changed when the American/Canadian versions came out (and the other versions for different countries), Where's Waldo is specifically for the US and Canada, and Where's Willy is for the UK and Australia (and some other countries/continents I have not mentioned), some other countries change the name in order to make it rhyme in their language http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Where%27s_Waldo%3F http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Where%27s_Wally%3F
