Mallrats Easter Egg - Jaws Tribute

Bruce was Spielberg's name for the mechanical shark from Jaws. Thus, Brodie Bruce is a double Jaws reference.

the character Brodie was based on a guy named Walt Flanagan who had a dog named Brodie, which is where Kevin got the name from. Its all on viewaskew.com if you want to look it up

It also says (on viewaskew.com) that the names are direct references to the characters of Jaws, I never saw any mention of the dog.

Kevin Smith is a huge Jaws fan and makes reference to the film in his first 3 flicks...in Clerks : the scene where Randal is playing with a "Tostito" in a bowl of salsa, pretending it is a shark fin, singing the Jaws theme and quoting the line "we're gonna need a bigger boat." In Mallrats are the similarities of the main characters' names in the two movies. And in Chasing Amy the scene where Banky and Alyssa are comparing the scars they received while going down on their partners, is taken from the scene in Jaws where Hooper and Quint are comparing scars they received from sharks. I can't think of any similarities to Jaws in Dogma right now though.

Yeah and don't forget his big plug to Jaws. Ts tells Brodie he's going yo propose to his girlfriend when Jaws pops up on the Universal Tour.

Another JAWS reference in the scene in Chasing Amy where the scar competition is going on is a phrase Alyssa says. When she mentions her scars on her knees she recieved while going down on a girl in a car, she describes the incident as "a pair of kiddy sissors over a paper doll" or something like that. That same phrase is in Jaws earlier than the scar scene, when quint describes a shark he caught turning his nets to shreds, saying the same paper doll quote. i think that's right...

The Jaws reference in Dogma is in a deleted scene with Cardinal Glick when jay puts on his hat and gets behind his changing screen andmoves back and forth making it look like the fin
