Star Wars Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back Easter Egg - IG-88 B in Junkyard

In the scene where C-3PO is about to be liquidated, if you look in the background, you will see I-G88 B, who was destroyed by Boba Fett in the book Tales Of The Bounty Hunters. I think this is really cool, just because its there. one thing i dont understand: Why is he white? does an ion cannon not only disable electronics, but also bleach as well? some things we'll never know, kinda like how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop. heh heh.

overridding a droids circuits changes their color. Also, there was a different color light in the incinerator room. third of all, C-3PO was never melted, he was shot by corporal drazin in the western hallway, floor 3.

IG-88 is one of many. The one you saw here is just another droid like it. There are a lot of protocol droids like C-3P0 in the movies and in different colors, and also a lot of R2 units like R2-D2 or R5-D4.

There are only 5. One IG-88A killed all the people working on the project. He then tried to make one work but it got all messed up. He then successfully turned on the 3 remaining ones and named them IG-88B, IG-88C, and IG-88D.

If C-3P0 was built by Anikin, hwy are there loads of them. Do they come in kit form? Build your Onn Protocol Droid? And I mean, what sort of a mother would let an eight year old play with those small parts!

Bruser, the idea of Anankin creating C3PO came about only in the new movie. Previously, C3PO had been created about 50 years or so before Anakin was even born. There are lots of other changes made with the new movie; for example, Obi-wan was only about 5 or so years older than Anakin. Why Lucas has decided to change the history of the Star Wars Universe, only he knows.

Actually, IG-88 wasnt destroyed at that point. Unlike the other bounty hunters who went looking for Solo, IG-88 figured that Boba Fett would probably find him first, regardless. So he lay in wait at Tatooine for Boba Fett to arrive and ambushed him there. So it was another unit natch.

Its been a while since I've read the novelization, but wasn't Anikan 10 at the most? I find it hard to believe that Obi-wan was supposed to be 15... he seemed at least 20-something.

Obi-wan was 22 years old. IG-88 never made it too Tatooine. I like cheese. Anican was 9 in the movie. he did make C-3P0 and there is only one. pam is good.

I would like to point out that the droid that led Obi-wan Kenobi and Qui-gonn Jin onto the federation battlecruiser looks like a silver c3-po.

If you watch Empire on widescreen, when Vadar is on a Star Destroyer with the bounty hunters, he walks up to Boba Fett and says 'No Disintigration!' to OUR left(i think) is an ig-88. you can also catch a quick glimpse of him when the camera is angled up while the 2 Empire officers are talking.

There are plenty of 3P0 type droids in all of the movies. In A New Hope, there is a white-ish silver 3P0 following R2 and 3PO. In Empire Strikes Back, he says "Nice to see a familiar face" to another one right before he walks into the room with the storm troopers. And in Phantom Menace, the droid in the first scene. I'm not sure about Return of the Jedi. I think Anakin built it himself using the basic design for a protocol droid so he wouldn't have to MAKE actual skin.

or maybe he was just using spare parts, he was a slave in a junk shop. I think it would be MUCH easier to build a droid that already exists than design a working one and make the parts and skin from scratch. And I dont think his mother had much of a say. building a Podracer is unlikely, I think watto would notice Podracer parts disapearing.

A level of sadness reached by reading the books - there are plenty of protocol droids no-one argues that. IG - 88 isn't a protocol droid (and looks nothing like one), he is one of 4 or 5 illegally built assassin droids who then killed the people who built him. Graphic novel reference IG - 88 attempts to ambush boba fett after he has han - good trick for an entity melted down before the event

THERE ARE ONLY 4 IG-88's, the fifth droid to escape from Howlan Laboratories was IG-72, who already had a personality, so IG-88 downloaded his memory and sentience into the 3 replicas of himself. IG-72 was "marginally deficiant", the droids IG-88, and 72 agreed to assist each other to escape, and then go their separate ways. One IG-88 was killed on the Cloud City by Fett, two on Tattoine by Boba Fett. And the original lived on as the Second Death Star, to implement his droid revolution, but he was killed by the Rebellion when the Death Star blew up.

IG-88 was an assassin droid that killed his creators. he downloaded himself into 3 of the other 4 droids, but not IG-72, because he was "marginally deficient". 88 named himself IG-88A the other ones B, C, and D. 1 was disabled on cloud city, 1 in orbit of Tatoonie, 1 in the battle of Endor, and 1 just stopped working on Mechis III. he was awakened and reprogrammed from there as read in the YJK books. IG-72 was killing apperantly random targets when he was deactivated by imperial officials.

what about the MGA-688? or the BBC454? ugh, I fear I don't really care enough about star wars to argue about wether a droid was assembled by a 10 year old slave on a junkyard, wether a sub plot of assassin robots are running around/not running around/melted/scrapped/heaped/blown to smitherienes, etc since Lucas decided to completely and paradoxically destroy the starwars universe when he created episode 1. call me a blasphemer if you will,

Ok folks, these so called histories of characters you all quote are unfounded and erroneous, they are from star wars related books written by no talent HACKS!!!!!!!! these are not official George Lucus written materials, merely stuff that he ok'd to be written, such as the encyclopedias, and what have you. Therefore, whatever you read in these things, ie anakin not building c3po and ig-88 being dead, alive, dancing around, are not true. They are things that are green lit, without being reviewed, and the end up containing vital plot damaging things, so if it wasn't in the movie DON"T BELIEVE THE HYPE, ps life is too short too become dissillusioned with something because it doesn't go they way you want it to, dragon, why don't you try to create something huge, and then have some nitpicker cry about every detail that's out of place!!!!!!!

Unfortunately I have not read all the SW books, so someone explain this: If Anikan Skywalker built C-3PO, and he traveled around with both 3PO and R2D2, then why doesn't 3PO and R2D2 pick up on the name Skywalker when they meet Luke in A New Hope on the ~SAME~ planet Anikan was from? Have they had their "memory erased", are they forgetful, or just don't have a high enough level of logic to make the connection? I've wondered this ever since i saw The Phantom Menace.

IG-88 was on the Excalibur with the other bounty hunters. You see it in the movie, and could buy the IG-88 figure along with all the other bounty hunter figures, way back when ESB first came out.

Ok. There are several IG-88 droid thingys, and they all seem to have an angry disposition against Boba Fett. Fett managed to zap this one with an ion cannon. IT DIDN'T CHANGE COLOR BECAUSE HE SHOT IT WITH THE ION CANNON! Maybe it was the original IG-88 and because he was completely finished, he got a paint job. ;)

Regarding DarkSide's comment about IG-88 appearing next to Boba Fett in the scene where Vader assembles the bounty hunters and tells them to track the Millenium Falcon: as far as I know, he was not there in the film's original release, but was added in for the Special Edition.

I would just like to ask why TylerDurden is so concerned about the truthfulness of the posters discovery. I personally just look at the scene and say "Ha, how about that, he's right, that droid head does look like IG-88." I don’t say, "Hey, that's only in a book approved by George Lucas, so it has no involvement with the Star Wars saga." I would just like to say grow up and get a life please, you’re entitled to an opinion but I would just like to say I completely disagree with your attitude.

Halt. Doesn't compute. There are five of us. Myself (IG-88A) who eventually gets destroyed by Boba Fett on Tatooine. Another on Cloud city, presumably the one we're refering to. Another on Tatooine. The forth simply deactivated on Mechsis III. And, of course IG-72, who was taken out by Imperial troops. That's five, but what about the one destroyed by Dash Rendar in Star Wars: Shadow of the Empire?

The white looking droid seen in the incinerator room in ESB is meant to be IG-88. Originally it was intended to be used as one of the bounty hunters seen on the Executor, but they couldn't get it to look right so it was scrapped and just used in that pile of junk. In the book, "Tales of the Bounty Hunters" there were 4 IG-88 droids. One was killed on Tatooine by Boba Fett, one was blown up in space by Fett in the IG-2000, and another was ambushed by Fett with a portable Ion cannon on Bespin. This is the same one that fights with Dash Rendar in the "Shadows of the Empire". Dash merely knocked it out temporaily. The book is clearer about this than the game. It is revived and repaired before chasing Fett to Cloud City. The 4th one is destroyed later on a different planet... A CG IG-88 was inserted into the bounty hunters line up shot for the 1997 Special Edition along with the Outrider (Dash Rendar's ship) in the background of the hangar on Hoth...
