This is a pretty common occurrence on Star Trek sets. On The Next Generation notes on the consoles of the workstations often included things like the lyrics to the Gilligan's Island theme song, etc. It helps the actors and extras focus on the sign and look more convincingly like they are reading it. (Since they are--to get the jokes!) I believe the practice started on Battlestar Galactica when battlestar technicians used to look so flat and unconvincing and bored just sitting there starring at dead screens during major battle sequences. The producers installed Pong and/or other early video games on the consoles and, sure enough, in the next battle sequences, when their lives were supposedly threatened and every moment could have been their last, they can't tear their eyes away from their screens--and their latest attempts at high scores!

Named 'okudagrams' (after the famed Mike Okuda), these have popped up in every Star Trek series to date. The notable exception os the Original Series - before Mr. Okuda's time. However, in TOS, many of the pipes and conduits along the lines bore a precursor to the okudagram: GNDN (Goes Nowhere, Does Nothing). Many okudagrams can be found documented in the various Star Trek Technical Manuals. One of the funnier ones is the infamous Master Status Display in Main Engineering on TNG.

This is just more information, really. On of the entries on the directory is for the 'Jupiter Mining Corporation' the company that owns Red Dwarf.

If you get a copy of the deep space nine compnion,there is an image of it in the synopsis for "emmissary".Other places on the directory include "milliways" and the "sirius cybernetics corperation",which are both referances to "the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy".

Also, since I worked on the show for the entire run, I remember there was a bowling alley listed on one of the station levels too. Oh yeah, and the most wanted picture that were lit up on each side of Odo office were actually composited pictures of alien features over various crew and art dept. people.
