VooDoo (Godsmack) Easter Egg - Hidden Witch Chant!

*sigh*...in case you didn't know, in the song's video, there is an actual wiccan ceremony being taped with the lead singer's high priestess presiding. it's a really cool video, but unfortunately, mtv won't show it b/c they don't want to get involved in wiccan politics (i guess not enough screaming 12 year olds are into it yet). so, that's no hidden witch chant, its actually supposed to be there b/c that's what the lead singer intended when he was writing the song

I just wanted to confirm Leia's finding. I checked it out and it's right. But I wanted to say that Wa..'s comment about Mtv not playing the VooDoo video is wrong. I see it all the time. It's on later at night with all the other heavy music.

They do that weird rattles and stuff at the end of keep away too its just not as long

I did not hear any chanting, I just heard them carrying on a normal convorsation in an eerie one-pitch tone, and then plainly singing the chorus over and over again in a rising volume, while a convorsation still continues. Maybe you think it was a chant becasue of the somewhat eerie music. Maybe there was something at the beginning because it was hard to hear.

For those who doubt, I can say for two of these. The video for Voodoo IS a Wiccan ceremony, they friggan said so during the making of it, which showed on MTV (not a "Making of the Video" episode, some MTV news thingy) Sully, the singer, is Wiccan, and, I forget her name, the High Preistess is HIS high priestess, and he invited her, and some of his covet to be on the shoot. Thank you.

The woman performing the ceremony is Laurie Cabot. The only way Sully and Laurie would do the video was to have a real Wiccan ceremony being performed...

I have to agree with FunBoyDraven, I too, saw the same thing on MTV. Being from the Boston area, like Sully, I have heard numerous radio bits with him talking about the band. On Voodoo, the song, was intended to have those chants. The chants you hear are chants that take place during wiccan ceremonies. Sully practices wiccan, and since I do not, I don't know when the chants are exactly used. In the video, which, MTV refused to air, then relaxed a bit, and compromised and said that it would only be shown late at night, after midnight, I presume, it is a wiccan ceremony, again, I don't know which one. The person 'running' (I don't know what they call it) the ceremony is Laurie Cabot, a well know witch, a personal friend of Sully's and a high priestess that Sully refers to often, and he asked her to be in the video. That about sums it up. Sorry this is long, but i hope to clear the air, I have been following Godsmack for 6 years, so I know a bit about them. If you really want an interesting bit, try to find the unedited version of Voodoo video. It is basically the girl in the video with the snakes on her head, as being top-less. A radio stations TV show up here showed it, blurred, once, and commented on it. I know I'll get complaints, but thats the jist of it.

You know, it's great that you guys know so much about Wicca and Godsmack both. First of all, Sully and Laurie ARE performing an actual Wiccan ceremony. No true Wiccan would falsify anything so sacred and important. The "chanting" you hear at the end of the song however, has absolutely nothing to do with the ceremony. The words you hear are "I'm not the one who's so far away...." just like the chorus of the song.

Funny how I heard Drums and rattles all threw the song....Mabey its just part of the song and not a chant at all. :\

I've followed Godsmack since before they became famous. I've also followed a lot of Laurie Cabot's teachings. She's not a fake. Since when is it a bad thing to be successful? If she were dirt poor, would you think she wasn't a fake?

I am familiar with Godsmack and the song "Voodoo". I am also Wiccan. My question is how you know Laurie Cabot is a fake and what gives you the right to judge her standing? On other notes, the song is great and the ritual is very real.

it is not a witch chant. its just some singing of the chorus. in the video there is a wiccan ceremony, but the song isnt about that. in an interview on LAUNCH he said he wrote it about a movie he saw. the guy who originally posted this is an idiot. mtv does show the video occasionally, but they dont like to because of the pentacles in the video. Fuse shows the video more. MTV SUX!!!

I must say 1) It is a real Wiccan very very very real Wiccan ritual also the words at end are not a chant it is words from the chorus. Also Do not demerit Laurie. Tho She may not be a head of YOur faith does not mean she is not "real". I believe very much in her and other wiccans so pls be respectful.

Although the entire video was NOT a Wiccan ritual, rite or ceremony, parts of it was. The HPS (High Priestess) presiding over the ritual is none other than Laurie Cabot, the Witch of Salem. She is a very famous witch and, I hear, an excellent teacher, having taught and initiated Sully Erna and Christopher Penczak, to name a couple of also-famous witches. I am no kid -- I am 40 years young -- and I am a witch. If people took the time to understand our religion a bit instead of making assumptions based on popular misconceptions and out-and-out lies, MTV would probably have to issue airing the video. I think it's a wonderful piece of work.

BTW: There is no specific chant for any Wiccan rituals. Three is no "right" or "wrong" way to celebrate the religion, aside from in a negative sense. This being said, no one is "messing up" a ceremony or ritual in the video to Voodoo.
