Aladdin (Disney) Easter Egg - Visit from Sebastian

not only does he pull out sebastian, but the opening bars of "under the sea" plays as sebastian is dangling from the genie's finger (just in case you didn't catch that it was sebastian in the first place).

I don't think that this can really be called an egg. He comes out of the 'Royal Recipes' book because he is a king's 'clerk'. The Genie actually makes comment on his visit and I think that it is no different from the 'Brutus' and chicken he also pulls out, which couldn't be described as eggs.

Sure it's an egg... Genie says "king crab?" as he pulls Sebastian out, but it could have been any crab. If you hadn't seen the Little Mermaid you wouldn't get it.

Sorry, i am going to have to agree there: its NOT an egg, but it is a cute little Disney in-joke (of sorts) that was worth pointing out. :0)

This is not an egg - but I have more info on it. I have an animator friend that was working there and he got this stuff to me. I was able to read this script and see pencil tests about a year before the film came out (I also heard the songs at this time - there were two more but they cut those, and they really worked up R.William's numbers because his singing was awful- ever notice how drowned out his voice is in "Prince Ali"?) - Anyway, the artists thought that it would be cute to put Sebastian in the movie at the cookbook bit, and when J. Katzenburg saw the daily of this he said,"Great! Give him a line." So, the first time I saw this scene in the pencil tests, Sebastian also said,"Ariel?", in a Jamaican accent. This was wisely cut.

I don't consider it an egg, because the Genie said, "King crab?" and a natural Disney thing to do was have Sebastian as the example - this is a funny movie and a regular crab would not have helped the comedy any. This is a fairly obvious joke, and it is clear it was meant as part of the story line, not as a hidden egg.

It's definitely a nod to Sebastian and THE LITTLE MERMAID. Listen closely and you hear that the score (when the crab is pulled out of the book) is a line from UNDER THE SEA (a song that Sebastian sings in The Little Mermaid).

Well, I think that this was a perfect idea. The Jeanie was looking through his cookbook and said something about "crabs" or "fish" at the same time he pulled out Sebastian. Everyone knows who Sebastian is and it fits perfectly.

Well, if you are going to call this an egg, you might as well say that it is an egg when Genie's head turns into that of Pinoccio's in the same scene.
