Ghost World Easter Egg - Cheap Suit Serenaders
In the scene where Steve Buscemi and Thora Birch meet for the first time, Steve is selling some of his vinyl albums at a flea market set up in front of his apartment block. As they are going through the records, an album entitled "Cheap Suit Serenaders" is clearly visible. This is a dixieland-type band that director Terry Zwigoff belonged to back in the 70s (they still play occasionally.)
Terry Zwigoff also directed the documentary Crumb, detailing the life and work of reclusive comic book artist R. Crumb, who also happened to be a member of this band (in fact the full name was "R. Crumb and his Cheap Suit Serenaders").
If anyone has seen both of these movies, or has seen R. Crumb's artwork, I thought that the drawings in Thora's sketchbook looked suspiciously like R. Crumb's work. I was wrong, but close. After researching on Ghost World's web site, it is in fact Crumb's daughter Sophie's work that appears in the film.
