This may sound like a nit pick, but it has all sorts of significance, he's not standing in a meadow, he's standing AT THE DARK TOWER.

Ok, the name of the book is "Insomnia" not insomniac. get it right please! Also, the book is *full* of Dark Tower references, not the least of which is the dealings with the Crimson King. Also mentioned: -"there are other worlds than these" -Ka and ka-tet -the 'bald doctor Fates' talk of existance being 'not a sky scraper', but a dark tower, surrounded by roses -"on the beam" -Ralph remembers fearing the 'queenfish' catfish would take "the two fingers from his *right Hand*' ( ala. lobstrocities and Roland)

There was more than just that, he had references for many of his books in this one. The three guys (pardon, been years since I read it) had a whole totem collection, things like the boy from pet cemetarys shoes, ect.. ect..

This isn't really that significant. Hearts In Atlantis also referes heavily to The Dark Tower in the first section (the beam breakers have yet to be discussed in the Dark Tower series though).

OK, here it is. A lot of Mr. King's books lately (Lately being the last decade or so) had at least one reference to the Dark Tower. In Eyes of the Dragon, for instance, the antagonist was the sorcerer Flagg... In the Stand, the antagonist was Randall Flagg (who also went by other names, all having the initials R.F.) In the Dark Tower, the antagonist is Flagg... In It, the good force is that of the Turtle, guardian of the Beam. The real question is, though Stephen King denies it, is the world that Roland lives in our world several thousand years in the future, or is it really just that there are "Doorways"?

I think what Stephen King is doing is using his Dark Tower series to tie together all of the other books that he has written. ex. Insomnia, Hearts In Atlantis, In Eyes of the Dragon. he's been trying to tie all of his books together in a way, and he's using the Dark Tower to do so. if he has got a plot base (IE, whatever happens in Dark Tower effects the real world) is uncertain. while he has made references in his other books, he decided that he needed a way to explain exactly what the references are, hence, the Dark Tower series. but to answer TheMadKingLudwig's question, they are doorways. it states in the first one that (know the wording isn't right) "this world is a shadow of what should be". and when Jake dies, he goes to Roland's world; then when he dies there, he comes back to ours. hope this isn't too long-winded.

MY THEORY: First, the world Roland lives in is the world of the Stand. The plague caused the world to move on. In the most recent Dark Tower novel, one of the characters picks up something that says something about Mother Abigal or Flagg, I can't really remember which. Roland says that their story is close to the other. Then it is eluded to that the characters will encounter Randal Flagg, who was Flagg the sorcerer from "Eyes of the Dragon," who Roland encountered earlier in his life (I know Flagg from "Eyes of the Dragon" and the other Flagg are the same, because Roland remembers coming upon the brothers as they were battling him). And, it says in "Eyes of the Dragon" that Flagg disappears for a while, then returns. So he wasn't defeated in "the Stand." Thank you and any other thoughts would be appriciated.

Stephen King has tied several of his books together and it is all revolved around the dark tower. And rodimus' idea about Roland in the post plauge earth from the stand is a grand idea. But there is a snafu in the timeline then, because in the Stand the plague happens in 1990, and if i am not mistaken Roland draws Eddie from 1987. But the ka-tet,after getting of off Blaine the Mono, enters Kansas of June 1986, where a world has been ridden by plague. SO how could the world be the same, it cannot be.The time lines are not correct, and there for i don't think that Roland is from the Plague Earth.

I think you are right, the world of Roland is a different one from when they enter the world of the plague

Actually, the world of the Stand is just another doorway. It even says that when they are going through the shiny crap that makes all of the noise.

I can say with some healthy certainty that Roland's world is neither our Earth (that of Cujo, Carrie, Pet Semetary, Insomnia etc.), nor that of books like The Stand, which carry world-altering events. I do believe, however, that Roland's world is the same as that of both Eyes of the Dragon and the Territories from The Talisman and Black House. Of course, they're all connected...through the Tower. Happy Reading!

It seems that some of you have missed some key info. The world of Roland is not the world of The Stand, it may be the same world as in Eyes of the Dragon, but it is the same world as the Territories. We know this because we read of the gunslingers passing through a "thinny" into another world. A barren world. A world with a newspaper on the ground mentioning cptn. trips (the virus from the Stand). The world of Roland is the hub world of the Stephen King universe. "There are other worlds than these...", Infinite worlds, all one outside the next. At certain points the barrier between worlds is worn thin, such as the Black House or the doorways on Rolands beach. Some people can move between worlds, people like Jack Sawyer, just "fliping" into their Twinners world. Others find their way through "thinnys". The world has moved on due to the Crimson King and his attempts to break all the beams (which stableize and hold together all the worlds) and his partial success. The timelines make no difference because time is one of the elements of the world that the beams stableized. When they were broken, time began to move in different ways. Breakers are slaves who have been captured by the Crimson King. There are different types of breakers, but they all share one trait, they are not normal people, they are gifted. Some are psychic (pre-cognitive), others are Telekinetics (can move things with their minds) or Pyrokinetics (can control fire). Another important fact is that the Crimson King keeps his breakers in a place where time barely moves. Ted Brautigan from Hearts in Atlantis, is the chief breaker. He is also a talented escape artist it seems because he has escaped many times. OK, thats all I can babble for now. The problem is that facts are so scattered, it's hard to pull them together coherently. I hope this helps.

Correction on my last comment here; Gage Creed, not Seth Garin, was killed in Pet Sematary. Seth Garin is the boy from Desperation. Sorry for the mix-up.

It's been a while since I've read both Insomnia and the Dark Tower series, but if I remember correctly, the boy in Insomnia that draws the pic of Roland (in a field of red roses with the tower in the background) is named Patrick Danville. I think he's the same 20 something year old man in DT7. Roland and the ka-tet find him being held hostage in the cottage of Joe Collins, AKA Dandelo, shortly before Roland reaches the tower. In DT7, Patrick helps Roland defeat the Crimson King by drawing pics for Roland. I will check in Insomnia to see if I'm right about this and post again, but in the meantime, if any of you have a copy of Insomnia and want to check on this for me, I'll be more than happy to be corrected if I'm wrong. Thanks for your time.

Ok guys. I posted earlier about Patrick Danville. I just checked a website (darktower.net) and it turns out that I was correct. Ralph Roberts' "mission" in Insomnia is to save a young Patrick Danville, the child who drew the pic of Roland in the field of roses surrounding the tower. He is the same character that we meet in DT7. Just wanted to let everyone know that. Thanks again. Tina

Ok, this is the last post from me on this subject, I promise! In my last post I referenced a website, but I posted it incorrectly. The correct site is thedarktower.net (not darktower.net). It makes all the difference. Sorry guys.
