Producers, The (1968) Easter Egg - A Big Flop!
In Mel Brooks' insane classic about two producers sincerely trying to bilk investors with a failure of a Broadway play, Mel does a vocal cameo.
On opening night the audience of unsuspecting critics is blasted by a brassy "Springtime For Hitler". The opening number is spectacular. Male dancers in full Nazi regalia take the stage in the second half of the opening number to perform an energetic routine that ends up being a Busby Berkely tribute with an overhead shot of a swirling swastika. A second dancer jumps out of formation after the first dancer introduces himself to the audience. The second one jumps out and cheerfully hails "Don't be stupid, be a smarty, come and join the Nazi party!"
This handsome young Tuetonic's voice is dubbed by none other than writer, producer, director and song writer for this movie: MEL BROOKS.
Mel continues to laughingly lampoon Hitler's Nazism in each comedy film he makes over the following years.
