The logic behind this egg is that during his presidency Ronald Reagan introduced a Cold War program which involved Satelites which he called Star WArs.

Ronald Reagan was actually George Gip in the movie your are referring to, not Knute Rockney. Reagan played Gip, the sick Notre Dame player, as in "win one for the Gipper." Hence Reagan's nickname, "the gipper."

Well, I just read the other comment on this site and it's wrong too. Reagan never called his missle defense program Star Wars. The press dubbed it as such as a knock on Reagan for even attempting to build it. He always referred to it as the Strategic Defense Initiative or SDI.

I was just on theforce.net and they have a section the eggs in Episode One. They say that they got the first name for Nute Gunray. They got his first name from the former speaker of the house, Newt Gingrich. Your right about the last name accurding to that site.

George Bush was elected in 1988, but didn't take office until January 20, 1989. There fore Reagan was president for the entire year of 1988. Whoever spelled out the name with all those letters, don't worry about sounding like a jerk. You didn't. You sounded like an idiot. No one ever said that Gunray was an anagram for Reagan, they said that if you swap the syllables in Gunray, you get Raygun, which sounds like Reagan. There is a rumor that the Emperor, as he was created in the first trilogy, was modeled after Richard Nixon, "an elected official who corrupted under immense power". I have no idea if that is true or not, but if it is, this egg makes sense, since there is definitely an anti-republican slant. It would be logical that Nute Gunray was named after two Republican leaders (Newt Gingrich and Ronald Reagan)

Actually raygun is a common mocking nickname for Reagan used by democrats. So this does make sense. Although I don't know why Lucas would hate Chris Dodd since Dodd is one of the bigest liberals in the seante.
