Myst Easter Egg - Rush Limbaugh Understands

Yeah, I heard about this one on another website, but I didn't know how to make a QuickTime movie play backwards, so I couldn't see if it was true. I found an egg on this site, a QuickTime egg, which let you do that, and it's really funny! Before, seeing Achenar speak in gibberish in that Channelwood temple used to surprise me, and, with that CRE-E-EPY music, it gave me the heebie-jeebies. (@_@)

By the way, it's Channelwood. The way you spell it, it sounds like a perfume.

I could never get this to work with my Myst (maybe because I own the Mac version).

There's an Easter Egg in the Quick-Time movies section. All you have to do is open the Quick-Time movie, hold down Shift and double-click the frame on the screen. You should then be able to hear the (not quite so) WEIRD sounds of Channel-wood!

When I go into its folder, there's nothing there.

Did you access its folder from the CD-Rom drive? If you opened it from the hard drive, there won't be anything there. Put the disk in the CD-Rom drive and open it from there.

That's what I did. I don't really care about now. I already know what happens.

ROFLMAO this is hilarious When I was a little kid, about 6, my dad would listen to Rush every day. When we got this game, I wasn't really able to understand it, but I remember doing something and hearing a voice. I said "dad, the guy said something about Rush Limbaugh" everyone in my family started laughing, saying I had misheard. This is really neat!

Be sure you play the movie backward from the very end or you will miss it.. If you start from the middle its just Channelwood all the way back to the beginning.

I got this to work with the Mac version. I have an original version; I'm not sure if they've re-released it at all. Anyway, insert the CD-ROM, open up the disk, open up the "Myst Graphics" folder, open up the "Channelwood" folder, and then find the file "Holo-AMouth.MooV". I use OS X, and I was able to open the file in Quicktime by selecting it, choosing "Show Info" from the "File" Menu, selecting "Open with application..." and choosing quicktime instead of Myst. You'll probably need to choose "Other application..." and choose Quicktime after selecting "all applications." Then open the file, and select "Loop back and forth" from the "Movie" Menu, play, and wait for it! With OS 9 or earlier, you can probably just open the file from within Quicktime, but I have not tried this.

The current version of QuickTime Player does not give a menu option to play the movie backwards, but it's still possible. Just hold shift and double-click the movie image.
