Diablo 2 Easter Egg - Cheat Codes (NOT AN EGG)
Diablo 2 in a Window
Although not documented, you may run Diablo 2 in a Window instead of full-screen. Simply add "-w" to
your Diablo 2 shortcut.
(ie: "C:\Diablo 2\Diablo II.exe" -w)
Retrieving Items from Dead Corpse
If you die and cannot make it back to retrieve the items from your dead body, simply save, exit, and
return to the game. Your corpse will appear in town and you may retrieve your items easily. *note* only the corpse with the most valuable equiptment on it will be respawned. If you use other equiptment to retrieve your first corpse, be prepared to lose that equiptment if you can't get those corpses back
Secret Cow Level?
In order to find the secret cow level you are going to need a few things.
1.Wirts Leg
2.Beaten the Game
3.Tome of Town Portal (with scrolls)
4.The Horadric Cube
Once you have beaten the game go to the Rogue Encampment in Act I, then put Wirts Leg and a
Tome of Town Portal (This has worked with random amounts of scrolls in the tome) into The Horadric
Cube. Once you hit transmute they should disappear, but once you close your inventory window there
is a red portal that will lead you to the Secret Cow Level. This ONLY works in the Rogue Encampment in
Act I.
Hex Cheat (Stash)
WARNING: Always make a backup of your savegame before edititng!
To modify the amount of gold contained in your "Stash", do the following:
1) Try to put at least 1000 gold in your stash. This cheat will work with smaller amounts, but you may be
limited on how much you can add.
2) Load your game. Record the amount of gold in your stash. Exit from game.
3) Load a Hex Editor and convert your gold to HEX. Open the file savegame.d2s (savegame will be the
name of your character) in your Diablo 2 save folder.
4) Search for the HEX location (from converted amount of gold). Modify the HEX location to FFFF (or
any amount in HEX that you wish - up to 65000). Save the file.
5) Re-load your Diablo 2 savegame and you will have 65000 in your stash!
Well, I had some free time on my hands tonight so I started to toy around with my characters to learn
how all these people were cheating on Open Battle.net. For all the people who do not know what that
is, it allows you to play your Single Player characters on Battle.net with other people.
Almost the very first day, people were cheating on battle.net, and it has grown even more. Now almost
everyone I see tries to cheat in some way, or you see this message a lot "How do I cheat?".
Well, here is how for all who are interested in knowing. Do not read this if you do not want to know how
to cheat.
Just so you know, there are many more ways to cheat than what I am revealing, the problem is, I just
learned all of this today, so I do not know of ALL the ways to do it so far. NOTE: You can only cheat
using your single-player characters, you cannot cheat using Realm(secure) Battle.net servers.
The first and most simple way is to DUPE. This is very easy to do:
Step 1: Go to your Diablo 2 directory, and you will find a sub-directory inside called "save". Inside this
directory you will see your Single-Player character's name as the header for 7 files.
Step 2: Copy all of these files to a safe directory outside of Diablo 2.
Step 3: Log on with your character, then hand all of your items to a friend.
Step 4: Log off and have your friend stay inside of the game. If you have two computers, you can just
do this yourself without the aid of a friend, just have one computer hosting the game that is holding all
the duped stuff.
Step 5: ALT-TAB out of Diablo 2, then take the files you put in the safe directory outside of Diablo 2
and overwrite the files in your Diablo II/save directory.
Step 6: Log back into Diablo 2, and you will notice that you character has all his/her items back, but the
ones you dropped are still on the ground (or on the character you game them to).
There you go, now you have duped your first items. This has many uses, as you can trade your butt off
on Open bNet, give ridiculously large amounts of items for small things that you want, then just re-load
your old character and have all your stuff back, plus the item you just got.
Another use is that you can keep tons of backups of your same character, but have each backup
holding different items. This gives you unlimited storage, so you can keep as many magic items as you
want. When you want to log on with certain items, just overwrite your current "save" files in your Diablo
2 directory with whatever you want. Just make sure you always backup before you overwrite.
The next way to hack, and probably the most difficult is to HEX EDIT your saved files. The only one I
have messed with is the "save" file with the extension of .d2s
This holds your character's name, experience points, life, etc. What I am going to teach you how to do
is to increase your level by giving yourself experience points.
First you need a hex editor to open the .d2s file. My favorite is Cygnus.
When you have it open, you will see stuff like this:
00000060: 00 00 00 00 D4 00 - G6 45 etc etc.
You will need to go down to line
00000250: and line
00000260 .
These lines contain your character's Experience Points Information. Now, the best way to just give
yourself experience points is to edit line 260, not 250. Now if you save your file, then load Diablo II, go
gain 1 point of experience or whatever amount, then load this file again, you will notice these two lines
have changed somewhat. This is how you will know you are in the right spot.
The exact spot to get the best results, which means you can either give yourself a tiny bit of experience,
or raise your level to 95, you can do it all on line 260.
Now, each hex section is broken up into 8 two digit things, and a blank row would look like this
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
To give yourself a smaller amount of experience you will need to change the section that I change to
5's to show you where I am talking about:
00 00 00 55 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
To give yourself LOTS of experience, change the section I give all 7's to:
00 00 00 00 77 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
The larger the number you type into these two digit slots, the more experience points you will get. You
can add or subtract from both slots at the same time to get different results.
If you have given yourself a load of experience, when you enter the game, you will notice your
experience points bar shoots all the way out of the screen. Just go kill one monster, and you will gain a
level(or a BUNCH of levels if you raised yourself to 95). Then you will get to use all your skill points and
stat points just like you gained the levels without editing your character.
Just so you know, there is TONS more little things you can do to your character by hex editing, you just
have to have patience and spend the time comparing for little changes that take place in each file to
learn what values hold what.
I hope this help you out in your strive for the evil knowledge of cheating in Diablo 2!
