Simpsons, The Easter Egg - Frink Rules!

This has got to be the smartest concealed egg = the average person (i.e. - someone who doesn't know bout hex etc) wouldn't get that in a million years...... ~GZA~

For those of you who are unfimiliar with hexidecimal code, there's a very easy way to decode it in windows. The browser you're using right now will probably do it. When the browser sees a % sign followed by a hex code, it generally decodes it. That's why you'e probably seen a lot of %20's (hex for a space) floating around in filenames, web addresses, and such, because in most environments, they're not allowed to have spaces, because it confuses the software. If you type the word "about" in your browser's address bar, followed by a colon, then you can type a literal word or phrase and the browser will display it. You can do the same with hex codes, too. For this particular example, try copying the following line (without quotation marks) into your browser's address bar (I've only tried this on IE): "about:%46%72%69%6E%6B%20%72%75%6C%65%73%21" I think you'll find that your browser will display "Frink rules!" in the default text and background, usually black Arial or TNR on white background. If you wanna do it yourself, without learning binary, just multiply the first digit by 16 and add the last digit (A through F=10 through 15), then hold Alt, type that number on your number pad that you never use, then release Alt and there's your character!

I believe you guys are talking about John Frink (the guy that had the flying motorcycle). And he's not a Doctor, he's a Professor. His full name is Professor John Frink

i know that this has been posted above, but for those who can't be bothered to find it......... "frink" refers to the professor who is explaining the phenomenon --> the one who is explaining 2D and 3D cubes when chief clancey wiggum tells him to "slow down egg-head" :)

Proffessor Frink is a character in the Simpsons, he's the ultimate geeky inventor type. The joke is the fact that he bothered to put a little 'Frink Rules' message in there in HEX no less! Fantastic!

John Frink is in the credits of the show, so either it's a gag, or the scientist was named after a producer or something.

Yes, indeed professer frink is named after John Frink who writes for the simpsons. This was revealed in a Simpsons book I own. Many of the characters names all have hidden meanings or inside jokes with them.

Of course Frink Rules! He's the funniest character on the show, they should use him more. I like the hexadecimal reference to a goofy scientist, that's cute.

John Frink, glad to see he is successful. While I've rarely watched the Simpsons, I haven't talked to John in years. We went to High School together in Oriskany NY 30 years ago. Back then John was one of the funniest people you would ever meet. He used to sit in Study Hall and draw cartoons. He was incredible, I doubt he ever said any serious in 13 years of school (kindergarten too). We used to ride motorcycles in the woods behind his house and he was always thinking about jokes. I talked to him more in the past when he was writing for "Men Behaving Badly" and a few other shows. Go for it John and make us proud. Mark H
