Star Trek: The Next Generation Easter Egg - Gotta Love the Big Budget

In an episode of the fisrt season of Star Trek:TNG, there is a little bright pink parasite that is causing all sorts of problems. A special case is needed to carry the parasite around. The only problem is that they had no budget to actually make a special case. they ended up using a 99 cent plastic Trapper Keeper notebook. I noticed this one becuase I actually owned the notebook when I first saw this episode and got a great laugh about it.

In the Reading Rainbow episode about ST-TNG, they mentioned that they use stirred sparkles in water for the beam in / beam out effect. They also use tonnes of model parts for decoration and once they used a broken razor to create a tiny shuttle craft.

Also notice for you military buffs. All throughout the shows you will Sonobouy holders used as cargo containers and i believe in one episode they tried to beam one into space and back for some test. Ex navy man here I can verify the legitimacy of this prop.

Mind you, the sparkles for the transporter is the oldest FX trick in the Star Trek Manual they still use. Also, yes, they DO mae parts from various miscellenaous items. In "1011011" (something like that), a shuttle can be seen flying in front of the Enterprise (matte painting), this the "Razor shuttle" previously discussed. Also, in "When the Bough Breaks" the Custodian computer's core is a 2-foot model made out of scrap metal, could you tell?
