Mine only has 5. In the upper-righthand corner, where it says 100 meters, there is no button. Ther are 3 on the other corners, and two on the bottom.

I have only just had my watch ( 26.7.00) and it only has 5 buttons. Where did you get yours and what is the extra button for?

I have the new Ironman Datalink. It has two buttons on the left, three on the right and one on the face. I held all 6 down for a short while and it reset itself. It then displayed what I would guess is a serial number and then showed 1-1-96 3:00am. No easter egg on this model I guess.

Pressing all six buttons on an Ironman Data-Link watch reboots the firmware. The first thing the watch shows upon rebooting is the serial number. I know this "reboots" the watch because the watch uses a Motorola 6805 microcontroller as its front-end hardware, which makes it a real computer! Entering the COMM mode on the watch shows the firmware version number. (Ironman Datalinks use version 4.0, the Beepwear Pro uses version 5.0.)

I just got my watch and it has 5 buttons. It didn't work for me. It reset the watch, and then it had the right time after holding all 5 buttons.

I had to use this feature on my watch, because after pressing the Indiglo button to turn on Night Mode, my watch beeped, and went dead for a moment. It then displayed a long number, (I can't remeber what the number was). I thought I needed a new battery, but first I tried to press all the buttons at the same time, and the watch reset to the factory settings, and I was able to use my watch again without getting a new battery. Although this worked, I didn't see any credits.

I recently replaced the battery in my Ironman Triathlon w/Datalink, and every once in a while, the watch automatically resets itself -- to the same settings mentioned above (3:00 AM on 1/1/96) after displaying a serial number (816007). It seems to do it whenever it is jarred or shaken. Is this thing toast? Whay is it resetting?

The new timex ironman i-control watches have two or three buttons. On the two button one there is a stop/start/reset and an indiglo. On the three, there is a stop/start, a reset and an indiglo.

Problem: Ironman watch that spontaneously resets itself after battery change: Pushing all the buttons didn't work for me, although it does reset the watch. FIX: Open the back of the watch and, using a screwdriver or piece of wire, briefly short the exposed part of the battery to other metal. I used the alarm spring and a few other pieces that loked like they might behave as grounds, but didn't reach further inside the watch. This seemed to fix the problem. There is probably a static electricity charge that is created in changing the battery that makes the electronics behave in a quirky manner. Also, if your alarm doesn't work after changing the battery, you may have put the back on rotated 180 degrees. Make sure the writing on the back is upright in the same direction as the face of the watch. Hope this helps. --Ken

Ironman watch resetting itself: Sorry. Cancel my message sent a few days ago about briefly grounding out the exposed portion of the battery and another metal part of the watch. The watch worked normally for about 48 hours (which was a miracle) and then started resetting itself again about every 6 hours after I banged sand off my shoes. These watches may only be worth one battery life. I intend to try the fix above again, but I don't have the right screwdriver to open the watch while on vacation. --Ken

Ken here again. Topic: spontaneously-resetting Ironman watch. Please delete the email from me about shorting out the battery. I must have temporarily fixed the watch by reseating the battery better, but it later started resetting itself again. Here is a fix that appears to have worked permanently for me. The watch seems to reset itself when there is slight play in the battery after a battery change. Fix this by removing the battery and slightly bending the 3 clips that hold the battery in place, then slightly push down the two pieces of metal that hold the battery down. Reinsert the battery and clip it in place. Check that there is NO play in the battery when you push down on it. This seems to have permanently fixed my watch. (The folks at Wal-Mart didn't have any idea how to fix this.) Hope this is helpful. --Ken.
