Baldur's Gate Easter Egg - Funny Character Sayins

On the main screen (with the world view in the middle and the character portraits on the right), click on any character portrait (except the main character) 9 times in succession (which one would not normally do). Now, the next few times you click on that character's portrait, they will say unusual and funny things. For example, one of the wizardess Dynaheir's sayings is, "These boots are made for walking, and that's just what they'll do." Another example, the fighter Khalid (who stutters) says, "Click on someone your own size!" and "Ch-ch-ch-ch-chia!" (As in Chia Pets.)

This egg is pretty common in overhead, multi-charater games (Warcraft2, Starcraft, etc.) I am pretty sure that Warcraft 2 started the trend.

Actually, they all have 4 weird sayings - click 13 times to hear the lot. Safana's are amongst the best.

And, the mad necromancer in chapter 2 says: I ate his live liver with some nice Chianti and some Fava beans...(reference to the Silence of the Lambs)

It's not just for the main characters. It isn't voiced, but has anyone encountered a Flaming Fist Mercenary who accuses you of being bandits. The guy talks like Robocop ('Come with me or there will be...trouble'). There is probably more dialogue like this that the designers hid.

The mad necromancer, Xsar, also asks about rabbits which is a quote from that overrated tome Of Mice And Men by John Steinbeck.

Alora the thief mentions this:" I don't think you are happy enough.. I'll teach you to be happy! Happy happy joy joy, happy happy joy joy" This is actually a quote from a guy called Stinky Weezleteets (or something) from Ren&Stimpy.. If anyone still remembers them..

You can make your own recordings for a character, and the last few sounds you record are these "rare sayings."

try clicking the actual characters. that works too. Khalid says 'th-th-th-that's all folks'... and other weird stuff. Edwin sometimes goes 'what is this mouse magic that makes me do what you please?' (or something like that) and Tiax says 'the day will come when it is tiax who will point and click!'

For the books, it DOESN'T work on Shadows Of Amn. Pity, isn't it?

Warcraft 2 did not start this off, nor did warcraft 1.

actually, warcraft 2 didnt start this trend. warcraft 1 had them as well, and there were probably games before wc1 that did this.

Actually, one of the first instances I remember of this sort of thing was at least 10 years before the WarCraft series (my all-time fav, btw!) even came out - in some really fun MUDs on my BBS! Great DMs and programmers have been doing this in some way for almost every game I remember playing >8 ).

There are lot's of funnythings. One of my favourits is one the main character says to some guy...i forget who... "Ok, I've just about had my FILL of riddle asking, quest assigning, insult throwing, pen hurling, hostage taking, iron mongering, smart arsed fools, freaks and felons that continually test my will, mettle, strength, intelligence, and most of all patience! If you've got a straight answer in that bent little hear of yours, I want to hear it pretty damn quick or I'm going to take a large blunt object roughly the size of Elminster AND his hat, and stuff it length wise into a crevice of your being so seldom seen that even the denizens of the nine hells themselves wouldn't touch it with a twenty-foot rusty halbard! Have I MADE myself perfectly CLEAR?!"

In the recently released (2012) Enhanced Edition of BG a lot of these sounds (if not all) have been added to the main game. Personally, I'm in two minds about it- while it makes things less boring now there's more to hear it can spoil your immersion in the Forgotten Realms with Robocop impressions and obscure American advertising jingles from the 90s (amongst other things) popping up to surprise you...
