Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace Easter Egg - Darth Vader Breathing

The Vader breathing occurs right after the two bars of the Imperial March ("Vader's theme") at the end of Anakin's theme. The inclusion of the ominous notes of the Imperial march in this otherwise fairly innocent piece of music for a small boy is chilling enough, but the breating really drives it home.

It is also in the first trailer. Listen very closely right after it says "Every saga has a beginning..." You will hear him breathing just before it goes to the shot of Anakin in the pod race.

Yes this is definitely there. 3 short breaths. I was going to enter this egg myself, but alas, I was beaten.

This is not an egg. This is fore-shadowing.

You do know that fore shadowing can be an egg at the same time.

I heard it too, pretty clever. The weird thing is, it isn't on the sound track so I thought I'd been hearing things. The sound track has the few bars of the imperial march but no breathing.

Curiously, Vader's breathing seems to be selective. I saw it twice in the theater the day it opened (greedy, I know, and probably a bit pathetic), the first time, around 2:00 p.m., my friend and I distinctly heard it. The second time, around 8:00 that same night, we waited, and waited, but no vader breathing.

I find it hard to believe that the breathing wouldn't be there sometimes. It's part of the score for the movie. The first time I heard this it only reaffirmed my belief (along with the inclusion of some of a romanticized Imperial March in Anakin's Theme) that John Williams is a musical genius.

This is not an easter egg. This is not foreshadowing. This is George Lucas making up for the flatness of the movie, and the utter lack of anything that would shed any light on Vader's actual origins. All we know is that his name is Skywalker, and he has a mother, (and he meets Obi-Wan Kenobi). That's it.
