No, this is true. It was his nickname, but it wasn't said behind his back and L.C. thought it was funny.

This is not true. Before the book was written, Charles used to take Alice to the local museum. That museum was the one and only one to display a stuffed dodo. Alice loved the dodo and wanted to know stories about it. Dogson knew how much Alice loved the dodo and put him in the book.

Did anyone else notice that the mouse did not like: C and D? Could this have been a reference to his actual name, Charles Dodgeson? Maybe I missed something said earlier on. I just kind of saw it at a glance.

I have a copy of the book in which the preface confirms this egg. it also says that Canon Duckworth, a friend of Carroll's who was also in the boat was the Duck and that Alice's sisters, Lorina and Edith, were the Lorry and the Eaglet respectively. These creatures appear in the end of chapter 2.

I believe that the "C and D" comment had something to do with the mouses conversation with Alice regarding "Dinah" - Cats and Dogs.

Of COURSE there is an actual dodo bird. Dodgeson would not have used the bird had it not existed. He chose to use a dodo because it fit with his nickname.

Another note: Not only is the Dodo in the Caucus race named after Dodgson, but the Duck can also be traced to one Reverend Duckworth. He was present with Dodgson during the "golden afternoon" which was the genesis of Alice.
